The problem with water

The Guild building was built in 1911 and prior to the refurbishment there were a number of energy saving projects to help with our wastage and energy consumption. We implemented a number of changes and in particular around the water usage within the building. The problem with water was an infographic poster delivered at the annual University poster day.

The Last 5 Years

The Last 5 Years follows the relationship of two people one at the beginning and the other at the end until their stories completely overlap. It is clever both conceptually and musically and I had the opportunity to produce the show with some exceptional musical talent in Liverpool. I wanted the artwork to reflect the different timelines of the characters and their relationship moving in different directions.

The Reckoning

Over the years I have done a few jobs for the very talented Felix Hagan. He is imaginative and always doing something exciting, but not only that, always gives an interesting brief. The Reckoning is a concept album for a musical that Felix had written both score and the book. It takes place in a castle, where a group of people fleeing an imminent danger meet, and tell their stories while the enemy gathers outside the castle doors. He wanted the artwork to be elegant and regal, but blood soaked. I sketched “The Reckoning” first (I’ll update the artwork if I can find that sketchbook) and then transferred to Adobe Illustrator. I would love to put the show on one day, maybe even direct it, but it is always difficult to get the busy songsmith to commit his time. Here is one of my favorite tracks from the album: More of Felix’s music can be found here.

Spring Awakening

Spring Awakening is a show based upon the play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for it's strong themes concerning abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. I produced the What We Did Next production and was also responsible for the artwork and promotion of the show. I wanted the artwork to show the sexual tension between the two main characters combined with lighting that pertains to the show rock score.

Breakin

In another life I used to be a b-boy, flinging myself at vinyl, concrete and wooden floors in most of my spare time. Old age and lack of time unfortunately caught up with me and I only occasionally get up to get down on rare occasions. I still have a huge love for the dance scene and I produced some artwork for a couple of different events and will hopefully do more in the future.
